Thanksgiving. Day 5.

Today I am thankful for knowledge,

and the ability to grow intellectually.

This, of course, may be due to the fact I am currently staring at a stack of books that all need my attention in one form or another today. This may also be due to the fact graduation is in just 7 months and I am already looking to go higher.

But there are places in this world where women are not allowed an education, not like what we have here.

I am thankful for my education.

Since I am in Christ.

I discovered this list several months ago and it’s been sitting on my dresser ever since. I’m going to post it all here and gradually through the next year come back to it for topics to discuss. There’s a lot here but I challenge you to copy/paste this into Word, print it, and tape it to your bathroom mirror. Read it every single day. Especially those days when it seems things cannot get any worse.

Since I am in Christ, by the grace of God:

I have been justified – completely forgiven and made righteous {Romans 5:1}

I died with Christ and died to the power of sin’s rule over my life {Romans 6:1-6}

I am free forever from condemnation {Romans 8:1}

I have been bought with a price, I am not my own; I belong to God {1 Corinthians 6:19-20}

I have been established, anointed, and sealed by God in Christ, and I have been given the Holy Spirit as a pledge guaranteeing my inheritance to com {2 Corinthians 1:21-22, Ephesians 1:13-14}

Since I have died, I no longer live for myself, but for Christ {2 Corinthians 5:14-15}

I have been made righteous {2 Corinthians 5:21}

I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I am now living is Christ’s life {Galatians 2:20}

I have been blessed with every spiritual blessing {Ephesians1:3}

I was chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and without blame before Him {Ephesians 1:5}

I have been redeemed and forgiven, and I am a recipient of His lavish grace {Ephesians 1:7-8}

I have been made alive together with Christ {Ephesians 2:5}

I have been raised up and seated with Christ in Heaven {Ephesians 2:6}

I have direct access to God through the Spirit {Ephesians 2:18}

I may approach God with boldness, freedom, and confidence {Ephesians 3:12}

I have been rescued from the domain of Satan’s rule and transferred to the kingdom of Christ {Colossians 1:13}

I have the right to come boldly before the throne of God to find mercy and grace in time of need {Hebrews 4:16}

I have been given exceedingly great and precious promises by God by which I am a partaker of God’s divine nature {2 Peter 1:4}

A Thankful Heart | Day 2.

Today I am thankful for a couple of things. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful for many things daily but I’m putting my focus on two things for tonight’s post.

Knowledge & Family

Family.

I know, family sounds like a given, right?!

Without my family right now my life would be crazy, upside-down. My parents have been amazing; over the last four years especially. How many 30 year old adults with children can say that living with family has been a great experience? It is because of them I am able to attend school full-time, finish my degree, and not have to struggle financially because of bills, etc. It’s not always peaches and cream but we are there for each other in any way possible and that is what matters the most.

My brother and his wife recently moved out of state so now we have a new place to visit. I do feel some regret that I did not reach out to my sister-in-law more while they lived close by but I am determined to remedy that.

And then there’s the boys. My two, not-so-little, rambunctious, little dudes. I love them to pieces and I know there are days when my wish for perfection overshadows just how much I love them but I’m getting there. Lots of hugs and giggles and winks from those two totally make any day better, regardless whether it’s good or bad. My days are exponentially better because of them.

Knowledge.

Not on the typical list of things to be thankful for. In my case, I’m grateful for the ability to not only learn but the capacity to retain and recall the information gained. With my school schedule I am always learning something but it does not stop there. I learn from my peers: different perspectives, views on various life experiences, opinions on how certain child rearing techniques have worked. There is a plethora of knowledge out there that is not in some fancy schmancy book!

Back to family for a second – and here’s how family and knowledge tie together.

I have learned so many things from my family. My mother is a college graduate and my father is not yet I venture to say I have learned the same amount of knowledge from the two of them over the years. Knowledge isn’t about taking a class, reading a book, or taking a test. It’s about gaining wisdom from those around you, whatever capacity they may be, and learning to apply that wisdom to your everyday life.

Haiti. One year later.

230,000 people dead.

I know the one year anniversary of this tragedy was nearly 2 months ago. I’m flabbergasted at the amount of destruction.

Between Haiti and Japan and Egypt I wonder if we’ve stretched ourselves too thin but then I remember some things the Bible says:

* Go into ALL the world and lo I am with you ALWAYS (No go, no lo!!)

* Whatever you do unto the least of these you do unto Me.

Image.

Let me ask you something.

  • Are you a nice person?
  • Do you yell at your mom?
  • Hang up on your ex?
  • Get cranky with your kids?
  • Roll your eyes when people ask what you deem “stupid” questions”?
  • Gossip with your friends?

I’m not asking you this to find out if you are truly a nice person or not. Stick with me here, I have another question for you.

If you said yes to any of the above questions, would you still do that if there were camera’s following you 24/7?  If you knew that your actions and your words were being recorded and blasted around the globe in various media outlets, would you still be the person you are today?

Is that the image you want people to see? Is that the person you want to be known as?

If you answered no to those last two questions, let me ask you this; why aren’t you the person you want people to see?

Ten Day Challenge. Day 9.

So, way over on my facebook page a friend challenged me to a 10 day challenge. Normally I won’t do these things but this one piqued my interest. It’s a quite a bit different than your normal “challenges”. At least what’s considered normal for Facebook these day! :)

Here’s the rules:

Day One: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.

Day Two: Nine things about yourself.

Day Three: Eight ways to win your heart.

Day Four: Seven things that cross your mind a lot.

Day Five: Six things you wish you’d never done.

Day Six: Five people who mean a lot (in no order whatsoever)

Day Seven: Four turn offs.

Day Eight: Three turn ons.

Day Nine: Two smileys that describe your life right now.

Day Ten: One confession.

Here’s my Day 9 –

Two smilies that describe my life right now:

Since I can’t find smilies to truly match my life, I’m going to list 2 words.

1. Life changing decisions.

2. Really, really, really, really excited to be turning 30.

🙂 That’s all.

Ten Day Challenge. Day 6.

Here’s my Day 6 –

Five people who mean a lot:

1. Eman & ZigZag. Yes, I’m cheating and putting two very different people on the same answer. Mainly because they are equally important to me. Everything I do or don’t do is because of them and reflects on them in many ways.

2. My parents. Yes, another 2 for 1 answer. Regardless of the times we disagree, my parents are the only ones who’ve been there for me in everything. I may not always like (or even solicit) their advice but I know they love me and they only want what’s best.

3. My friends. Who keep me sane and drive me crazy all at once. Who remind me of who I am and encourage me to listen to God’s voice when everyone else’s voices are overwhelming.

4. My brother and his wife. My brother is one of the most perceptive, intuitive people I’ve ever known and I’ve learned the hard way to follow his suggestions. His wife is gorgeous and balances him very well and along with becoming a good friend she is my sister and I love them both!

5. My Jesus. And before you argue that He’s not real, or He died on a cross, or He lived thousands of years ago – let me just tell you He is as real as you or me if not more so. And if you don’t believe, I suggest you try getting to know him and then tell me just how real He is in your life.
