Ah. Another way to celebrate turning 30.

Tonight we celebrated my birthday – just under a week early due to schedules. I think this was probably the most laid back, low key party I’ve done in a while. We had a few good friends over, ate dinner & cake, played games, and really just relaxed. It was fun!!

Dinner consisted of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans (with bacon!), and rolls – all homemade – courtesy of a local restaurant.

Cake was red velvet with the cream cheese icing and an actual stuff teddy bear. Yum! All courtesy of Reasor’s.

Games – dominoes and various options on the Wii.

Overall, it was just a good and relaxing night. I’m ending it now by ordering my 50 free Christmas cards from Shutterfly!

And so it begins.

Today is December 1st, the beginning of a lot of things;

Advent. The period beginning four Sundays before Christmas and observed by some Christians as a season of prayer and fasting (technically this started 11/28 but who’s being technical at the moment!)

The Christmas Season. Christmas or Christmas Day is a holiday observed generally on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus, the central figure of Christianity. The date is not known to be the actual birthday of Jesus, and may have initially been chosen to correspond with either the day exactly nine months after some early Christians believed Jesus had been conceived, the date of the winter solstice on the ancient Roman calendar, or one of various ancient winter festivals, Christmas is central to the Christmas and holiday season, and in Christianity marks the beginning of the larger season of Christmastide, which lasts twelve days.

December. The twelfth and last month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

December’s flower is the narcissus or holly. December’s birthstones are turquoise, lapis lazuli, zircon, topaz (blue), or tanzanite.

In Latin, decem means “ten”. December was also the tenth month in the Roman Calendar until a monthless winter period was divided between January and February.

December is the month with the shortest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and the longest daylight hours of the year in the Southern Hemisphere. December in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to June in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa. In the Northern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological winter is 1 December. In the Southern hemisphere, the beginning of the meteorological summer is 1 December.

December starts on the same day of the week as September every year. December ends on the same day of the week as April every year.

ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas Movies

(of which not all movies are actually Christmas-y).

And, the beginning of a new blog series for me. 🙂

I turn 30 this year (in less than 14 days!!) and I’m so very excited about it! I get that for most of my friends 30 is the beginning of getting old. Some of them (no names mentioned!!) have even discussed having cosmetic retouching done! We’re only 30!

Thirty is a big deal to me. Why? I honestly can’t answer that. There’s so many reasons and none all at the same time. I know that probably makes no sense but that’s just how it is. 🙂

In light of my 30th birthday, I’ve been polling my friends to see how they celebrated (or want to celebrate) their milestone birthday. I’ve been given some pretty interesting answers and plan on turning each different answer into a blog for the month of December. So, that means that you’ll get to read MANY new blog posts this month! (I know. I know. You can’t contain your excitement!)

Plan to come back often and catch up with the different party ideas! 🙂

Ten Day Challenge. Day 9.

So, way over on my facebook page a friend challenged me to a 10 day challenge. Normally I won’t do these things but this one piqued my interest. It’s a quite a bit different than your normal “challenges”. At least what’s considered normal for Facebook these day! :)

Here’s the rules:

Day One: Ten things you want to say to ten different people right now.

Day Two: Nine things about yourself.

Day Three: Eight ways to win your heart.

Day Four: Seven things that cross your mind a lot.

Day Five: Six things you wish you’d never done.

Day Six: Five people who mean a lot (in no order whatsoever)

Day Seven: Four turn offs.

Day Eight: Three turn ons.

Day Nine: Two smileys that describe your life right now.

Day Ten: One confession.

Here’s my Day 9 –

Two smilies that describe my life right now:

Since I can’t find smilies to truly match my life, I’m going to list 2 words.

1. Life changing decisions.

2. Really, really, really, really excited to be turning 30.

🙂 That’s all.

Friday Favorites – 2 weeks worth

I’m sitting here editing the hundreds, possibly thousands, of pictures I’ve taken in the last few weeks and it occurred to me that I failed to post a #FF post last week and this week both. So, I’m going to combine the two weeks now. And yes, by the time I’m finished with this post it will be Sunday. But, you know what they say, “better late than never”! Who’s “they” anyway?!

And the memories are going to be all jumbled up because, well, it’s 2 weeks combined and without having my calendar in front of me I’m uncertain of what happened when! Suffice it to say that the following events happened sometime in the last 2 weeks! 🙂

Here goes nothing!

One Saturday we had 2 soccer games and 2 birthday parties all before 4pm. Made for a very busy day, let me tell you! However, it was the first soccer games of the season and ZigZag’s first ever team soccer game! It was so exciting!!

E-man has had 4 out of 5 “green” days at school! I’m counting this as all week because technically he wasn’t at school on Friday so for the entirety of the week he did have, he was on his best behavior! This does, however, mean $5 goes into the piggy bank but he’s also that much closer to his goal of getting a DS for Christmas!

E-man has officially started Cub Scouts! He’s a Tiger Cub! We got the uniform, now to just get those patches on it before the next meeting! 🙂

My friend’s daughter had a baby! A bittersweet moment as she’s still just a teenager (17) but happy at the same time because baby is healthy and is in a very loving home!

We planted lots and lots of flowers with/for my mom. Some will live and come back next year. Other’s will die and will have to be replaced next year, but we had lots of fun doing it!

Pawhuska Bible Church had their 15th year anniversary and celebrated with a picnic after church. There was so much food and desserts and oh so many water balloons! But, the biggest draw was the dunk tank!

I think that’s about it. Not as long as I thought it would be! 🙂 The only other thing that happened that was so very much fun was the planning party for the PTO we’re hoping to get started at the school. Very exciting stuff happening here!
