A Heart of Worship.

It’s incredibly hilarious to me that there are people, intelligent people even, who keep trying to find the meaning of life but to no avail. No, I’m not humored by their failure but by their uncanny ability to look past what is right in front of them.

We were created to worship and fellowship with God.

That’s it. That’s the meaning of life. That’s the reason we are here.

Fellowship.

One of the definitions of fellowship is “communion” with another one being “the companionship of individuals in a congenial atmosphere and on equal terms”.

Can you imagine what it must have been like to be Adam?  To be on equal terms with God? To walk, literally, with God on a daily basis? To just hang out with God? Don’t get me wrong. I know we have that ability now;  to just be in constant fellowship with God because of His sacrifice of Jesus.

Have you ever read about the relationship of Abraham and God in Genesis 18 and 19? God is considering hiding the impending destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah from Abraham but He seeks out Abraham and listens to what he has to say. God made a pact with Abraham that if there were even just 10 godly people found in the cities God would not destroy them. Yes, they ended up destroyed anyway but God kept His promise to Abraham and made way for Lot’s family (the godly people) to leave the area before the cities could be destroyed.

Do you know how amazing it is to be able to say, “hey, God, that’s a good idea and all but what about this?” and know that God is listening? That’s just a smidge of what we get in our acceptance of and fellowship with Christ. We have that. Now. Today.

Worship.

The following lyrics are from  a song by Matt Redman called The Heart of Worship:

When the music fades
And all is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless your heart

I’ll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the ways things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You
All about You, Jesus
I’m sorry Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You
It’s all about You Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I’m weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

I’ll bring You more than just a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart

I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about You
All about You, Jesus
I’m sorry Lord for the thing I’ve made it
When it’s all about You
It’s all about You Jesus

Its all about you
Jesus

Real simply put, why are you worshiping God? Is it because you feel obligated? Because someone might see you? Or is it because you know, as surely as you need air, you need God’s presence in your life and without Him you would be nothing? When was the last time you fell flat on your face before God, at home, with no one around to see you? When did you last allow yourself to truly be yourself in God’s presence?

He can see through the facades we all put up at one time or another. Way down deep into your heart of hearts. It should not take music made with fancy instruments or big expensive projector screens for you to feel the need to worship God. If that’s the case then you have some serious digging to do in yourself. You should be able to worship God anywhere, anytime without being enticed.
